Conflict and Change

We are recruiting!

Conflict and Change is undergoing a drive to recruit trustees to broaden the skill sets, experience or qualifications on the management committee.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to help expand our existing Trustee Board to bring fresh, innovative and realistic ideas to the organisation and take things forward, with skills and experience in either:

As well as looking for trustees with specific skills, we are also interested in recruiting trustees who have good overall general knowledge, have an interest in the service we offer and may also have in-depth knowledge about the local community.

What is a Trustee?

Trustees are people that serve on the governing body of a charitable organisation.

Trustees are the people who share ultimate responsibility for governing a charity or social enterprise and directing how it is managed and run. They may be called trustees, the board, the management committee, governors, directors or something else.

Trustees ensure their organisation has a clear strategy, and that its work and goals are in line with its vision. A trustee’s role in a charity is to be the ‘guardians of purpose’, making sure that all decisions put the needs of the beneficiaries first.

They safeguard the organisations assets – both physical assets, including property, and intangible ones, such as its reputation. They make sure these are used well and that the charity is run sustainably.

What does a Trustee do?

Trustees offer the executive strategy, scrutiny, and support and are the final decision-makers.

They have oversight of all the charity’s decisions and set the charity’s direction.

Trustees are often drawn to a charity because they are passionate about a particular cause, or need in the community.

Become a Trustee

Trustees are exposed to a wide range of skills needed to oversee a charity: strategy and business planning, governance, HR, finance, marketing, fundraising, evaluation, property law and more. It can be an effective way to build skills and knowledge in a variety of ways and enhance work experience and opportunities.

Based on the Conflict and Change historically established “in person” community mediation training, we are delighted to have commissioned the creation of an online training version.

Inspired by the difficulties and experience’s the pandemic brought to the fore in relation to physical contact and participation in training venues and homes, the light really shone on the need for alternative mediation delivery and engagement possibilities for people in the community, for a host of reasons.

Together with another community resolution organisation, Conflict and Change have created and developed a full online mediation training for our volunteers, or for people interested in mediation as an area of interest and possible future career opportunities.

Between us, Conflict & Change (Newham, London) and Community Resolve (Bristol) have over 60 years of using mediation practices. We have worked in communities in numerous ways, including, teaching peer mediation in schools, family conflict intervention projects, workplace mediations, inter faith conflicts, disability rights mediation, special education needs mediation, and have lots of teaching experience to share.
